I like the (re)definition of independently wealthy. But it makes me wonder: independence for what? What do you want the freedom to spend your days doing? Building more and more businesses? At some point, operating them gobbles up the independence, unless you divest, but that loops you back to wondering: how next to spend my hard-earned independence?
This makes me think independence is overrated as an end in itself. Its value is in what it lets us commit to. So maybe the epitome of being "independent wealthy" isn’t freedom from commitment, but the freedom to commit to something that's worth it?
Independence from work that I'm not passionate about, say, designing brochures for dentist offices. With the freedom, I'm happily putting in 12+ hour days working on my own creative projects, and loving it.
This definitely does not mean I don't want to work or have commitments... quite the opposite as I tend to dial-up the intensity/hours/effort/focus when I'm working on my own stuff that I'm super passionate about.
