So many conversation I could have here as a parent at 35, a Mexican with mixed feelings about Claudia, my own recent cessation of drinking since Ash Wednesday and my own life transitions these past few months.
Came to say thanks for being real. I'm sure I'm not the only one reading this feeling a little less alone. My best to you.
Wow, so much overlap. I’m glad this resonated. Being real online sure is scary, but you're right, it’s a great way to start meaningful conversations.
Given that I’m just casual observer/outsider (and since I’m leaving MX soon), I likely won’t write more specifically on Claudia — but I’d still be interested to hear your thoughts. Hope the life transitions are happy ones, or at least that they turn out to be in hindsight 🙂
Given the quality of your talents, thoughtfulness, creativity, and character, I'd lay bets that you will have a wonderful life, without or without kids.
These are all great stories, and I look forward to reading all of them. And I like the "One Final thought," which I restacked as a Note. (That's a new Substack skill, and I feel drunk with power!) BTW, I was kind of shocked to see that I'd never subscribed to your Substack home, which I remedied pronto.
Kudos to you for sharing some of your draft posts! Having my own stash of drafts, I thoroughly enjoyed reading yours.
The one that captured my attention was On Life Transitions. No matter our age, we are all likely going through some type of transition. Reading about other people's experiences, even though the details may differ from mine, are always enlightening. But no matter what you choose, I'll enjoy reading it!
I suggest using the one line zinger at the end as your next writing prompt. That’s the perspective I am interested in exploring. What could I enjoy more now that my future self might be grateful for?
That’s a great idea. It’s an interesting prompt because not only do I imagine myself 10 years from now, but think back to my life 10 years ago and what I would love to get a re-do at.
Love this! I’d like to hear more about booze (I have the same reaction to a drink as you) and the American dream (I’m a foreigner in a foreign land too). Lovely work, Emily. Thank you!

Thanks Larry! I’m honored to be among your first restacks 🏆

Everyone’s always going through something, good or bad, it seems. Thanks Donna! I just might end up expanding on them all 🙂
